WEDDING MUSIC

Roxanne has created many special musical moments at weddings during her notable career. The atmosphere for the happy occasion is set as Roxanne welcomes guests with her beautiful harp music for one half-hour prior to the ceremony. On cue, she plays the various processionals for the entrance of the family, attendants, and bride. Ceremonies are often enhanced during the proceedings with a special song or moments of musical reflection or accompaniment during the unity candle, hand binding, or sand/flower/wine ceremonies.

After the pronouncement of the newlyweds as a couple, Roxanne plays a joyful recessional as the wedding party exits. She plays a postlude of celebratory music as the guests clear from the site. Her most-often-requested wedding processionals/recessionals include "The Bridal Chorus" from the opera Lohengrin by Wagner (also known as "Here Comes the Bride"), the "Canon in D" by Pachelbel, and "Trumpet Voluntary" by Clark.

JEWISH/ISRAELI MUSIC

Roxanne is often invited to add the lovely strains of the harp at Jewish and mixed Jewish/Christian weddings. In the Old Testament psalmist David played the harp and the harp has a special place in the hearts of many. Roxanne also plays weekly at the Jewish Home of Rochester and delights her listeners with poignant and peppy Israeli melodies.

RELIGIOUS MUSIC:
TRADITIONAL HYMNS, CONTEMPORARY WORSHIP SONGS & SPIRITUALS

Religious songs are well-suited to the harp, whether they are traditional hymns, contemporary worship songs, spirituals, or classical in nature.

Roxanne has been a staff musician at Spiritus Christi Church since 2000, selecting music and playing regularly for services. She accompanies soloists, small groups, large choirs, and congregational singing not only at Spiritus Christi, but is often invited to enhance services in churches throughout the area. Her musicality can provide tranquil moments for meditation or be joyfully celebrative. Some of the most beloved are the "Our Father," "Ave Maria," "Amazing Grace," "You Raise Me Up," and "Deep River."

CLASSICAL MUSIC

The harp is often thought of as an elegant instrument; classical music is often considered elegant as well. Roxanne combines the two, and creates a marvelously rich and lush atmosphere. Classical composers have been writing for the harp for several hundred years. Music for other instruments/ensembles can often be transcribed for the harp, providing a vast repertoire and allowing harpists to play the most famous of music from many centuries. This repertoire survives the test of time because it speaks to our emotions. A few of the lovliest are "Canon in D," "O Mio Babbino Caro," "Jupiter from the Planets."

POPULAR MUSIC

Roxanne is well-versed in popular standards and show tunes (see Presentations and Demonstrations for a partial listing). Because the popularity of music changes so rapidly, any listing Roxanne provides would be soon out-of-date. If there are special tunes you'd like to hear, they are probably already in Roxanne's repertoire. If not, she will investigate whether they are adaptable to the harp and make an arrangement for you if you provide a lead sheet.

CONTEMPORARY HARP MUSIC

Her current favorites are Bernard Andres, Rhett Barnwell, Angi Bemiss, Cindy Kleinstuber Blevins, Daniel Burton, Billy Jackson, RoJean Loucks, William Mahan, Ray Pool, Kim Robertson, Meg Robinson, Barbara Semmann, Sunita Staneslow, Louise Trotter, and Sylvia Woods.

HEALING MUSIC

Throughout the ages, the harp adds to the merriment of joyful occasions, is a soothing aid in relaxation, and assists the grieving process. Roxanne is a Certified Music Practitioner of therapeutic music and continues this age-old mission of the harp. Live music, especially one-on-one at the bedside, is very personal because Roxanne focuses on the patient with the intention of attending to the needs of the individual. Transitions in music mood can easily be made as needed during the session. The condition of the patient determines the type of music that is selected. Roxanne appropriately chooses from religious, ethnic, classical, popular, and contemporary music or improvises as needed.
